Also, we have asked to see a copy of the lease but the homeowner said they might not have it. We are worried about restrictions, and dont know what to do. We have also been approved for the mortgage but the lender doesn't know its leasehold. Do houses qualify for lease extension? Will this affect Barclays Direct giving us the mortgage now?

I am concerned that my daughter is being hoodwinked. She submitted an offer on a one bedroom first floor purpose built maisonette in Whitby, where the lease is around 70 years but she was informed by the selling agents that the flat owner had extended it to 99 years. Only now has she been informed the owner was holding off for her to retain lawyers ahead of instigating the lease extension. Seems unscrupulous, also it may take months to sort it all out. What do you think?
We are considering buying a maisonette in Whitby which is a leasehold. I am wondering what are the pros and cons of that - what happens when lease expires, the cost of a lease extension, can the freeholder of the property evict me from my own flat and block me from having a lease extension?
My partner and I had entered into buying a garden flat in Whitby. I was advised by the EA that the lease extension had already been completed while on a viewing (sixety eight years outstanding prior to extension). The description on the listing stated "sold with a long lease". It transpires at the point of exchange of contracts we find that the lease has not been extended. The owner supposedly has a quote but no finances to extend and consequently the seller wants to exchange and use the 10% deposit for the lease extension. My question is as the lease hasn't been extended is there not a danger that it would breach my lenders lease length criteria?
I am looking for advice as I am interested in a property that has only a seventy five year lease and therefore requires a lease extension. Can I talk with someone to discuss my options please?
We have been in discussion with our freeholder after having a valuation on our garden flat in Whitby. We have a 62 year lease and we wish to increase this to 99. The Freeholder has provided us with a premium amount that she is happy with to accept for the extension of the lease, which we are happy with as well and wish to proceed. All we need now is a to handle this for us. Can you please provide me what your costs would be to act on the lease extension.
