We have seen a house for sale for £195k and we are very keen on but we've just discovered that it is leasehold. There are 928 years balance left so a lease extension is not a worry. We didn't know what this meant but the internet suggests we wouldn't own the land or property, just the lease to live there. Is this true? We wouldn't want to pay a mortgage for 25 years without owning the property. Any help would be much appreciated.

We have a ground floor flat in Waterlooville with 68 years remaining. Ten months ago we were quoted a deal to have a lease extension for another fifty years but also increase ground rent from nominal to £200 per annum..plus a premium I think of about 9k. We have now decided to go ahead but do we now have to start the negotiations again?
We are looking to extend our lease having owned the property for 2 years as of 1st March 2015. It has nearly 58 years remaining currently. Hoping to get a lease extension by another 90 years as quickly and stress free as is reasonably achievable.
My (separately handling my lease extension) said I need a licence to alter given that I wish to carry out a loft extension to my property. Is this strictly required given that I have a share of the freehold. I've informally discussed the loft conversion with my co-freeholder some time ago and he had no objection once I reassured him that if my builder damages the roof I won't expect the co-freeholder to pay for future repairs to the roof. Assuming I need formal consent should I get the licence to alter and then start the lease extension process?
My husband has a share of freehold, with two other leaseholders in a building in Waterlooville. House converted into three flats. He has a lease, which has approximately 72 years left. Does he have to do the lease extension at the same time with the other tenants, or could he extend the lease on his own?
