I'm planning to make an offer on a house in Manchester but I'm a little worried about it being leasehold. Do you know what title absolute means and is this regarding the lease? Also, we have asked to see a copy of the lease but the homeowner said they might not have it. We are worried about restrictions, and dont know what to do. We have also been approved for the mortgage but the lender doesn't know its leasehold. Do houses qualify for lease extension? Will this affect Clydesdale giving us the mortgage now?
We have seen a house for sale for £195k and we are very interested but we've just discovered that it is leasehold. There are 928 years remaining so a lease extension is not a worry. We didn't know what this meant but the internet suggests we wouldn't own the land or property, just the lease to live there. Is this true? We wouldn't want to pay a mortgage for twenty years without owning the property. Any information would be much appreciated.
I have contacted my freeholder to extend my lease for my flat in Manchester. His has been in contact regarding costs etc. I need a ball park figure for dealing with the legalities to secure a lease extension. The property currently has a 99 YR lease which started February 1994.

We had entered into a purchase of a maisonette in Manchester. I was advised by the EA that the lease extension had already been completed while on a viewing (fivety five years outstanding prior to extension). The sales particulars stated "sold with a long lease". It transpires at the point of exchange of contracts we find that the lease has not been extended. The seller supposedly has a quote but no finances to extend as a result the flat owner wants to exchange and use the deposit monies for the lease extension. My question is as the lease hasn't been extended is there not a danger that it would breach my lenders lease length criteria?
I'm looking at acquiring an apartment in Manchester valued at £210,000 the flat has just under sixety eight years left on the lease. I put in an offer conditional upon the lease being extended... .. that was back in June, expecting I'd have completed before Christmas. The seller has just informed the agent they'll reduce the price by£8k if they don't have to deal with the lease extension. I'm not sure whether that's a good idea
