We have seen a house for sale for £215k and we are very interested but we've just found out that it is leasehold. There are 928 years residual lease term so a lease extension is not required. We didn't know what this meant but the internet suggests we wouldn't own the land or property, just the lease to live there. Is this correct? We wouldn't want to pay a mortgage for 25 years without owning the property. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I'm intent on buying a flat in Chigwell at a price of £195,000 the flat has something like fivety eight years left on the lease. My offer was subject to the lease being renewed... .. that was back in June, hoping I'd have completed before Christmas. I own the freehold reversion of a property in Chigwell where the leaseholder has requested a lease extension. Her so called valuation expert has given a figure of £8,000, but has upped this by £2,000 without too much effort. My surveyor has put forward a much higher premium. Negotiations have broken down so it looks at though we need to go to LVT. If a lease extension does go to a FTT, can I deal with this myself, just equipped with the valuations I have? If not, what fee would I be likely to incur?
We currently own a one bedroom apartment in Chigwell and are looking to sell it this year so we can carry out some improvements on our family home. I checked the lease and it has 74 years left.
