Questions and Answers: Chatteris Lease Extensions
I’m thinking about a lease extension for our apartment based in Chatteris and we are confused by the communication that we got from our freehold company. How long will it take?
We have seen a house for sale for £215k and we are very interested but we've just found out that it is leasehold. There are 899 years unexpired so a lease extension is not a worry. We didn't know what this meant but the internet suggests we wouldn't own the land or property, just the lease to live there. Is this correct? We wouldn't want to pay a mortgage for 25 years without owning the property. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I'm intent on purchasing an apartment in Chatteris valued at £256,000 the flat has just under seventy five years left on the lease. I put in an offer conditional upon the lease being extended... .. that was back in June, hoping I'd be in by now. The seller has just informed the agent that they are prepared to reduce the price by£2k if I deal with the lease extension myself. I'm not sure whether that's a good idea
We are hoping to buy a home (a one bedroom apartment inChatteris with share of freehold). During our search, we were always looking at properties that had at least eighty five years remaining. We found a flat we fell in love with and the selling agent promised us that the lease term was not an issue. Yesterday our lawyers told us the lease only has 66 years and therefore needs a lease extension. Do we walk away, or should we reduce our offer?
