We have seen a house for sale for £195k and we are very keen on but we've just found out that it is leasehold. There are 798 years residual lease term so a lease extension is not a worry. We didn't know what this meant but the internet suggests we wouldn't own the land or property, just the lease to live there. Is this correct? We wouldn't want to pay a mortgage for 25 years without owning the property. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Hello. I need a lawyers to have a look at my lease extension before it's signed just to make sure there's nothing that I haven't seen - it's just a reissue with a few minor amendments.
My co-lessees and I are in a building comprising four flats in Bishopsworth and have been offered to buy the freehold for £6000 per flat rather than go for lease extensions. We are all in agreement that we want to do this but how do we get started and what is the likely cost?

I am thinking about buying an auction property and identified a one bed flat in Bishopsworth. It only has a 41 year lease..the seller as mortgagees in possession will not want to mess around with applying for a lease extension..what are the disadvantages of this except for the expensive fee to put a new lease on it and reduced chance of getting a mortgage with Accord Mortgages Ltd?
We would like to extend our lease. We will have been in the property for two years as of 6th March 2015. It has roughly fivety six years remaining currently. Hoping to get a lease extension by way of an additional 90 years as expeditiously and stress free as possible.

I am currently negotiating a lease extension for my flat in Bishopsworth as it is coming up to the 80 year mark. As I understood it, if you extend your lease by the 90 years available, you pay a premium (£thousands) but the ground rent is reduced to a peppercorn. I am now told that I have to continue paying ground rent. I thought the major cost of a lease extension was to compensate the freeholder as they wouldn't be collecting ground rent anymore?
I'm looking for some advice with regard to a lease extension on my three bedroom second floor purpose built flat in Bishopsworth. I'll be looking to do this sometime next year as we need to move at some point then. Unfortunately the current lease is now very short and therefore I'm guessing it'll be expensive to extend. I'm also thinking that I'll probably have to go down the tribunal route. Should I look to extend it now or wait until I sell my place and have it all tied in with the property sale?
